Where TulipFarm differs from Basecamp

Four differences that show up when a reorder job runs through each tool, with a note on how Basecamp handles it.

  • Orders are rows with rules, not to-dos

    TulipFarm

Each order is a row in a built-in table. Field rules stop a missing or wrong value from saving.

    See Tables

    How Basecamp handles it

Work is tracked as to-dos with subtasks or as cards moving through columns in a Card Table.

  • Agents that run inside TulipFarm

    TulipFarm

Saved agents with reusable skills run in TulipFarm, on demand or on a schedule up to once an hour.

    How Basecamp handles it

You bring your own AI agents: CLI access and skills for agents you run on your computer, plus ChatGPT and Claude connectors.

  • You see the exact change before it lands

    TulipFarm

On actions you pick, the agent shows the exact change and waits for a person to approve it.

  • Workflows are built in

    TulipFarm

Build a workflow visually, start it from a webhook, add JavaScript or Python steps, and let a run wait up to 30 days for a person.

Automation comes from third-party tools listed on its integrations page, such as Zapier.

Switching from Basecamp

TulipFarm doesn’t import Basecamp projects. Move the record-heavy job first and keep Basecamp for client conversations while you test.

  1. Find the to-do list that is really a table

Pick a list or Card Table where every item carries the same details, such as reorders.

  2. Build the table and its rules

Put those details in a TulipFarm table as fields, then import a CSV or XLSX of the current items.

  3. Give one agent the routine

Write the routine as a skill, add it to a saved agent, and choose which changes need approval.

  4. Run both for a cycle

Keep posting updates in Basecamp until the TulipFarm job gives the same results. Your first signup includes $50 in free credits.

Questions about TulipFarm and Basecamp

Is TulipFarm a Basecamp alternative?

For some jobs, yes. If a Basecamp project is mostly a list of orders, jobs or requests that share the same details, TulipFarm keeps them in a table with field rules and lets agents update them with your approval. For client conversations, message boards and to-dos, Basecamp is still the stronger tool.

What is the main difference between TulipFarm and Basecamp?

Basecamp is built around people talking about a project: messages, chat, to-dos and check-ins. TulipFarm is built around records that agents and workflows work on, and a person approves the exact change on the actions you choose.

Does Basecamp have AI agents?

Basecamp lets you bring your own agent. It offers a command-line tool, skills and connectors for ChatGPT, Claude and other MCP clients, and says your agents can do anything in Basecamp you can do. The command-line route needs a terminal and your own AI subscription. TulipFarm agents run inside the workspace on TulipFarm credits.

Can TulipFarm do everything Basecamp can?

No. TulipFarm has no message boards, Hill Charts, client mode, time tracking or native mobile apps. It does have built-in tables with field rules, workflows that wait for a person and resume after a restart, and approval of exact changes.

When should I just use Basecamp?

Stay with Basecamp if you work closely with clients, want one flat price with unlimited users, rely on its phone apps, or run projects on to-dos, schedules and check-ins rather than records.

Can I move my Basecamp projects to TulipFarm?

Not automatically. Pick one list that behaves like a table, recreate it as a TulipFarm table with field rules, and import the items as CSV or XLSX. Keep Basecamp for conversations until you’re happy with the result.

How much does TulipFarm cost compared with Basecamp?

Your first TulipFarm Cloud signup includes $50 in free credits. Paid plans aren’t public yet; see the pricing page to ask for more credits or apply for student, NGO or startup support. Basecamp has a free plan for one project, and paid plans start at $29 a month for Freelancer. Pro Unlimited costs $199 a month billed annually, with unlimited users.
